Plough Sunday service in Rippingale celebrates 100th birthday of Lorna Webb from Pinchbeck
Churchgoers celebrated the 100th birthday of one of their members during a special farming service.
Lorna Webb was asked to give a reading at the Plough Sunday service in Rippingale ahead of her milestone birthday.
Her late husband Derek reinstated the traditional service more than 30 years ago while serving as the priest in charge.
The service was led by churchwardens Jonathan Newell and David Dickinson, and the Rev Ian Walters.
Lorna, who lives in Pinchbeck, said: “It was a super service with a good turn out because there are lots of farmers around Rippingale. The plough was brought in and blessed, then we enjoyed refreshment afterwards.
“I wasn’t aware there would be a birthday cake for me.”
Lorna turns 100 next Wednesday (January 22) and will celebrate with friends from St Laurence Church in Surfleet ahead of a family lunch next weekend.
She was part of the parochial church council for many years and was a keen fundraiser, hosting coffee mornings for 45 years.
Lorna now attends weekly services in Surfleet and occasionally visits the church in Gosberton Clough where her husband is buried.
