Donington to mark anniversary of return of explorer Matthew Flinders
An Australian official will be attending a service to mark the year anniversary since the return of a famous explorer to his home village.
Thousands of people - many from Australia - descended onto Donington last July to watch as Matthew Flinders was finally laid to rest in St Mary and the Holy Rood Church.
The remains Capt Flinders, who was the first person to circumnavigate Australia, were discovered in London as part of the HS2 work - prompting a fight for villagers to have him returned to Donington.
Now, they will be holding a commemoration service in church on Sunday, July 13, from 3pm and will include the laying of a wreath by an Australian official.
