Challk trail in town centre as part of Spalding Reconnected project

Shoppers were able to ‘chalk one up’ and decorate Spalding town centre with an artwork as part of a new project.

Spalding High School worked with Transported to help create wonderful chalk artwork across the pathways around Market Place on Tuesday as part of the Spalding Reconnected project, writes Brodie Stafford.

Transported, South Holland District Council and other organisations are working the town centre improvement project, which received £250,000 of funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Teacher Elizabeth Kelleher led this workshop and was supported by year 10 students to work with people who wanted to take part in the activity.

Some passers-by felt the artwork would wash away and questioned the point in creating a temporary artwork.

Programme director Nick Jones explained that the purpose of the artwork was to attract residents attention and to speak to them about improvements planned to the town and river bank.

As well as asking about the areas of improvement for the riverwalk, people were also asked questions about life in Spalding and what they would do with funding to change the river.

Answers given during the survey put forward suggestions for new benches to themed new river taxis.
