Graffiti daubed on Spalding's Abbey Passage

A town passageway which has been earmarked for £30,000 Art Council grant has been subjected to graffiti.

A cheeky political message - "30k p*** alleyway" - has been scrawled on Spalding's Abbey Passage.

The passageway is due to be getting a make-over thanks to a £30,000 Arts Council England National Lottery grant along with a further £5,000 from the Spalding Town Centre Improvement Programme funded by South Holland District Council.

Transported Art has been tasked with creating a flower parade themed art work in the passageway.

Programme director Nick Jones had previously defended the plan following criticisms that the project was a waste of money.

He said it could help to stop anti-social behaviour along with raising preceptions of the town.

The money will be used to run the workshops with 1,000 school children and residents to create the mural.
