Spalding charity shop fills its windows with Christmas display in September

A superb Christmas display filling windows at a Spalding charity shop is snow joke in mid September.

While most shops are bringing in seasonal stock in a gradual and small way, The Butterfly Hospice Trust charity shop has gone properly overboard.

A decorated and star-topped Christmas tree, a beautiful golden angel, bauble wreaths, a snow globe, tinsel, a huge assortment of decorations and even Christmas Eve gift sacks are filling two windows.

Manager Liz Robson and her team had to think on their feet when their normal furniture delivery fell short ... and decided to bring an early Christmas to Spalding.

Liz said: “We’re short of stock.Every Monday we eagerly await our van to bring us furniture from the warehouse and last week, basically, he just brought us a really small selection.

“We didn’t have a lot of furniture to display so we just brought Christmas early to Spalding.

“We don’t let Christmas creep in here - we go full on and we’re making an impact.”

Customers have loved the festive bargains and they’ve been buying baubles in bulk along with every other kind of decoration from candles to novelty stockings.

The shop expects to have a furniture delivery this week but Christmas will remain in the shop as the display moves to another area.

Meanwhile the shop would welcome donated goods of all kinds so it can go on raising money for its hospice in Rowan Way, Boston.

You can deliver goods to the shop between 9am-4pm Mondays to Saturdays and the staff are very happy to see items like clothes, DVDs, books, jigsaw puzzles, jewellery and decorative pottery.

Bigger items like furniture can be collected free of charge from your home if you call the trust’s dedicated furniture and electrical store on 01205 724590.

Donating good to a charity shop is already a brilliant way of recycling because pre-loved items get a new lease of life with someone who appreciates them.

And Liz says items that don’t sell do off to recycling proper.

She said: “Electrical items that don’t work or things that are broken can still raise money for us when they are recycled ... we try to avoid anything going into landfill.”

The Butterfly Hospice Trust also has retail outlets in Market Place, Boston, and Lumley Road, Skegness.
