Churches Together in Spalding and District mark 65 years of partnership at The Lighthouse Church in town
Church leaders in Spalding and South Holland have marked 65 years of Christian unity.
The Lighthouse Church, Spalding, which turned 50 in June, hosted an anniversary service for Churches Together in Spalding and District (CTSD).
The Rev Steve Weatherly-Barton (third left), CTSD chairman, said: “So many barriers have been broken down over the years when we’ve learned that we’re Christians, regardless of church labels.
"We're doing things that couldn't be done by one single church, such as Spalding Street Pastors, Agapecare Foodbank and The Lighthouse Project, the last two supported by all the churches, all of which would probably not have happened with the churches working together.
"By meeting together, we keep alive that sense of understanding each other, but we need to do more work in that area.
"I would like to see more coming together for worship and witness, growing and understanding each other, something that's my dream for the churches together.
"Although we have business meetings to decide dates and events, these are not what Churches Together in Spalding and District is all about.
"Church unity should be about breaking out of our own narrow channels and working together."
