Spalding's South Holland Centre to run summer film schedule
The South Holland Centre in Spalding will reopen next month to show a series of films throughout the summer.
The venue's cinema showing are said to have been the number one choice from respondents in a survey which asked people what they want to see at the centre.
South Holland District Council says 81% of people said they were looking forward to having the opportunity to watch films again at the centre, which has been shut since the start of the pandemic.
A programme of films will now start in July to mark the start of the school summer holiday period.
Other live events - such as amateur dramatics, live music and comedy - are expected to return later in the year.
Councillor Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for communities and facilities, said: “The last 15 months have been incredibly difficult for us all, and the opportunity to get together with friends and family and watch some of the exciting summer blockbusters at the South Holland Centre is something we can all look forward to.
“The survey has provided us with invaluable feedback on what visitors want to see at the Centre, and that’s why we have prioritised a programme of films as the first things to return. We are putting everything in place to make sure that people feel safe and comfortable during their visit, and can’t wait to welcome people back.”
There have been a series of essential maintenance and other ongoing works to the centre while it was closed.
The summer film programme is part of a package of measures from the council that are aimed at giving Spalding and the district a post-Covid boost, including free short term parking.
Details of the films to be shown will soon be available on the South Holland Centre's website.
