Gosberton Bank and Pinchbeck care home manager Tracey is our first Citizen of the Week

We have got together with house builder Ashwood Homes to celebrate selfless citizens during this coronavirus pandemic and our first Citizen of the Week award goes to Tracey Laud, a care home manager who truly puts everyone before herself.

Nominations flew in for Tracey, who manages Brun Lea Care Home in Pinchbeck and Bank House in Gosberton Bank, from colleagues, friends and even relatives of those who she spends her time looking after.

Cheryl Bradshaw-Deaton, whose mother is a resident at Bank House, said: “Tracey is always looking for ways to improve the care and methods of the homes, especially during this pandemic. We truly feel we would be lost without her.”

Tracey and her teams have been looking at ways to keep families in touch with their loved ones during the coronavirus lockdown, and have set up Skype and FaceTime calls for residents.

Tracey, who has been managing residential care homes for ten years, said: “It’s a really hard time for care homes and I want to keep all of my residents and staff safe.

“I’m very aware that our residents are missing being able to see visitors so we are doing whatever we can to keep spirits up. We also do a dance of the day where residents and staff dance together, which is lovely.”

Misha Kruszelnick, who works with Tracey, said: “Tracey really is the best boss anyone could have. She works so hard and deserves to be recognised as the true hero she is, especially through the tough time at the moment.”

Kathleen Amess, who also works with Tracey, said: “She has gone above and beyond to make sure everybody is looked after, even giving up many hours of her own time to do shopping when we couldn’t get any food. She always keeps a great smile on when things have been tough. She is amazing and deserves this.”

Tracey, who lives with her husband Jonathan, is currently isolated away from her grandchildren but is lucky to work with one of her two daughters, Kirstie.

Kirstie Laud, who also put forward a nomination for Tracey, said: “Mum works so hard and does so much for everyone – she has a really hard job and she definitely deserves this award.

On discovering that she had won the Citizen of the Week award, Tracy said: “I’m absolutely humbled, overwhelmed and really quite emotional – it’s not just me doing the work... both of my teams are so hard-working and fantastic.

“I’m honoured to have even been nominated for this award and I want to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who nominated me. I’m just doing my job – but it’s a job I love.”

  • We are celebrating those selfless souls who are putting others first during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Whether it be the neighbour collecting shopping and walking dogs for old folk in a village, someone setting up a support group or a good Samaritan helping out the NHS, we know there are plenty of community heroes doing their bit in South Holland at the moment. And this is why we have launched our Citizen of the Week award. For at least the next month, we will be rewarding the selfless efforts of special individuals every week.
  • Put forward your special person by filling in the form on our website and then we will look at all the nominations, choose a weekly winner and celebrate their contribution and those of others in the Lincolnshire Free Press. The winner swill also receive a £50 food voucher courtesy of our sponsor Ashwood Homes. To nominate visit spaldingtoday.co.uk/citizen-of-the-week
