Donington's Young Dons hosts successful tournament




Footballers of all ages had a ball at a tournament over the weekend.

Young Dons welcomed a total of 24 teams to their Donington ground for a popular competition.

The club’s under eights, nines, 11s, 13s and 15s competed during the tournament on Saturday along with the adult team, The Old Dons.

Each age group saw four teams competiting and there was also a play off for the winning spot.

Trophies were won by the adults and under 13s.

A barbecue was held during the event, which was well supported by families and friends of the players.

Club chairman Paul Clarke said the tournament was so successful that it is hoped to be run next year.

He said: “It went really well and the feedback from the from the visiting teams was fantastic.

“We always used to hold a fun day but with the last couple of years with the football season being curtailed by covid we thought that we would do something to get the club’s name back on the map footballwise.”

The football season will start in September and the club would welcome new players.
