Sutton Bridge pub welcomed coastline walker

A woman who is walking the English coastline in aid of charity made a stop in Sutton Bridge on her journey through Lincolnshire last week.

Beth Wickes has covered more than 3,000 miles on foot since leaving her West Midlands home 18 months ago, so far raising more than £4,100 for her chosen causes - Lowland Search and Rescue, the RLNI and Mountain Rescue.

Beth (51), who set out from Tower Lifeboat Station, Victoria Embankment, London, on October 3, 2018, has been walking solo and unsupported around the country’s coast clockwise, although poor weather led her to come inland for a time and explore some other routes.

She’s recently picked the coastal trail up again, walking from the Humber estuary to

Cleethorpes, North Somercotes, Ingoldmells, Skegness and Boston.

Last week she made it to South Holland, stopping off at The Anchor Inn, in Sutton Bridge, before heading over the county border to Norfolk.

“Lincolnshire hasn’t been the easiest county to walk through,” says Beth, who hopes to complete her adventure by May 31.

“One thing I did find was that the people in Lincolnshire are very chatty and friendly.”

Beth was inspired to walk by a number of life events including two bereavements and a dyslexia diagnosis while completing a degree as a mature student.

She prepared by getting fit, walking up to nine miles a day while carrying a large rucksack and then decided she would use the opportunity to fundraise.

She said: “Nevertheless, it’s been a real experience.”
