Conservative win for South Holland and the Deepings after Sir John Hayes retains seat
Conservative candidate Sir John Hayes has once again retained the South Holland and the Deepings seat.
He has been elected with a total of 17,462 votes. The turn-out was 58.7% with just 46,063 ballot papers being issued.
Earlier in the evening Sir John said he was not feeling worried but was optimistic after getting a good response.
Sir John first won the seat in 1997 when he gained 49.3% of the vote and a majority of 7,991.
During the last election in 2019 - which was dominated by Brexit - his share of the vote rocketed to 75.9% with a majority of 30,838.

It implies that those who dis not vote for John Hayes lack common sense. Insulting. I am fully aware that our MP led a group in the HofC called the Common Sense Tories. However, all these competing groups within one political party is part of the reason that the Conservative Party lost votes. Divided parties never win elections. Even during the campaign Ms Braverman a dear friend of our MP was throwing grenades. to destabilize the party. A sure sign that she has leadership abilities but one of the most disloyal acts I have ever witnessed during a general election campaign. IMO elections are won from the middle ground. Extremists be they right or left never form a government. The MP elected to represent us should remember this when he votes for the next leader. He may become more involved knowing how precarious his once safe seat was.

My common sense tells me that the (now) former Conservative government was out of ideas and had done nothing to improve people's lives since the Liz Truss debacle. Therefore I used my common sense to vote for someone else.

Local area for local people.
Hayes deserves the area and people, no change for the foreseeable future. - Omegadeep wrote:05/07/2024 18:36It is so very clear that the majority of tge area are very anti EU. Wake up and smell the coffee, unless you are in one of the three major world trading blocks, i.e. European Union (EU)
USMCA (US, Canada, and Mexico)
ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)
Then you will be a minor player on the world stage. We live directly opposite to the largest trading block on the planet, the EU, yet we are excluded from real trade, we had , through the EU, trade deals with 100 other countries, on Brexit we started from scratch and undermined the economy even further with a small handful of one sided trade deals Many major companies have moved out of the UK and relocated to the EU, including many drug, scientific research concerns. But of course, the only thing that matters to Reform and John Hayes supporters is banging on about how great we are, waving Union Flags and growing carrots, spuds and cauliflowers. Says it all really, and you are welcome to you narrow world blinkered insular misery . - Omegadeep wrote:05/07/2024 10:31Well, yet again, the area has shown to the world how well esconsed it is into the views of Alf Garnett. It revels in bigotory, revels in poverty and poor services. Given a choice it votes for even more bigotory extremes that gave you Brexit, damaging our economy and farming community, causing many major firms like Pfizer and Astra Zenica to move to mainland Europe. But it continues the relentless shooting itself in the foot by voting for more extreme views than held by 4 jobs John in the guise of so called Reform, a private company, not political party, run by a toad ex Commodity Broker who falsely claim to be a man of the people because he has the ability to hold a pint glass. Well done voters, so many of you have shown your true colours and they aren't very nice on the humanistic scale .
- Tory Crimes wrote:05/07/2024 10:09Well done to Paul for giving it a go, hopefully this will inspire other younger people to stand at elections. As for people voting Tory and Reform well you get what you ask for...
- Sam Butler wrote:05/07/2024 08:36The majority of voters around here are their own worst enemies. And so are those that didn't bother to vote at all. Same with Clacton, Great Yarmouth, and Boston/
Skegness.
14 years of decline and they still voted for conservatives or worse reform.
hayes has even less a voice in Parliament now but nevermind, that will give him more time to devote to his other jobs. farage and his lot will soon get bored when it actually comes to doing the work for their constituents.
To quote Private Eye - trebles all round - TRUTHWILLOUT wrote:05/07/2024 08:04It was always going to be the case that the Conservatives would retain South Holland and The Deepings, but no matter how much Mr(Sir) Hayes glosses things up if nothing else the result has sent a message and in the bigger picture the nation has spoken.
