New Spalding care home on site of former pub, The Birds: Construction work is making good progress

Work is well under way at a new care home being constructed on the site of a former Spalding pub.

Glenholme Healthcare Group and Life Property Construction Ltd are in the process of building the 61-bed senior living care home on land previously occupied by the The Birds (Hungry Horse) pub on Halmergate.

This week, builders have been busy at the site, with a crane seen in the skyline from around the nearby area.

A spokesperson for Glenholme said: "Our 61-bed senior living care home in Spalding is going well and isn’t currently expecting any delays.

"The scheme this week has seen cranes on site placing the first floor concrete slabs, with brick and blockwork ongoing.

"The plan is to commence the roof structure in August; then finish the exterior work with windows being installed in September with exterior landscaping done not long after that.

"As you might expect with any new care home, we will be creating dozens of new employment opportunities for care professionals in the area by the end of the year. Thus far, our high levels of cleanliness, health and safety procedures have allowed our other senior living facilities to endure and remain COVID-free and our new facility will give some new senior residents a place to live safe, happy, healthy lives."

The Birds pub, which was previously on the site, closed down in 2018, serving its last pint on December 9 that year.

The aim is for the care home to open in summer 2021.
