Coronavirus: King's Lynn hospital records first death in nearly three months

The first coronavirus-related death for nearly three months has been recorded at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

NHS England data has revealed that a patient died at the Gayton Road site on September 26, after testing positive for Covid-19.

It is the first death related to the infection recorded at the QEH since July 9 and the 149th in total since the pandemic began in March.

The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital has recorded 125 deaths, the latest of which occurred last Tuesday, while 117 patients have died at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston.

However, no deaths related to the virus have been recorded there since late June.

News of the case emerged as bosses reported the QEH is ready for a potential new surge in cases over the coming months.

In her report to the trust's latest board meeting today, chief executive Caroline Shaw said: "The next few months look set to be very busy, particularly as we head into winter.

"However, I am confident that we have robust plans in place to navigate a winter where we are likely to face our normal winter pressures, alongside a potential increase in COVID-19 cases."
