Coronavirus: Spalding and Pinchbeck volunteer-led team are supporting those in need - but more donations of stock are needed
A team of volunteers, who came together just three weeks ago to support those in need during the coronavirus lockdown, have made an incredible impact.
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the Spalding and Pinchbeck Kindness Team was set up to support those who are vulnerable and self-isolating.
The team is made up of ten founder members and 100 volunteers. They are sending out more than 40 care packages a week, answering over 200 individual support requests, delivering to over 15 schools and ten care homes; and have even managed to deliver a birthday cake for a lady's 91st.
The lady was unable to see her family so as well as taking the cake, the team also took her a card and the neighbours came out to sing 'happy birthday.'
The are following all social distancing measures at all times.
South Holland District Councillor Rob Gibson is among those on the team. He said the support by everyone has been fantastic.
“Morrisons and Greenyard Fresh have donated fruit, John Phoenix who does meals on wheels has been helping, Lidl is providing fruit bags and Chris Eley is donating bags.”
Also helping is Pinchbeck Parish Council, L&D Flowers, Pinchbeck Spar, Welland Print and many more companies.
Another resident the team surprised by dropping off a card and wishing him happy birthday was an 85-year-old gentleman.
Coun Gibson added: "He said afterwards, I wish I could have invited you all in for a cup of tea!"
The team is also linking up with other similar volunteer-run groups across the district.
If any local companies, large or small, would like to assist the team and donate surplus stock they would love to hear from people.
The team can be reached via its Facebook page. Search for Spalding COVID Kindness Team and send them a message.
