Spalding's new music school aims to strike the right note
A group of classical musicians have begun a new music school in Spalding for children and adults.
Called the Little Music Academy, it is run by a team of teachers, including Maciej Mikiewicz.
Maciej (38), also teaches at the Polish Music Centre in Peterborough and is a graduate of the National Music School Feliks Rybicki in Tychy, Poland.
While the school in Peterborough was started up for the Polish community, the school in Spalding will be open for all.
Joining Maciej, who teaches classical guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar and ukulele, are teachers Piotr Filipiuk (piano), Katarzyna Liwinska (violin) and Kamila Sietnik (flute and pan flute).
Maciej said: “All of the sessions are individual and later on this year we will start group workshops for kids as young as three-years-old. We are planning to host concerts in Spalding for our students, just like we do in Peterborough.
“The perfect age for kids to start learning is around six-years-old but there is no upper limit, so adults are welcome as well.”
Training is on a one-to-one basis, either from the teachers’ homes, or they can go to the student’s home - and instruments are available to hire.
The team has also been in touch with primary schools to provide lessons in schools.
“If somebody wants to go on to play in a rock group then learning classical music is not only great for learning rhythm and notes, but also to be a good musician,” Maciej added.
“We also train them for the ABRSM exams.” These are the exams set by the board of the Royal Schools of Music.
