Lutton couple raise £1,000 for British Heart Foundation in year of pre-wedding charity challenges

A fundraising couple who are bringing in the cash for a special cause ahead of their wedding are edging closer to the big day.

Ethan English and Sophie Oldfield, who live in Lutton, set themselves a target of raising as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation.

The kind-hearted couple decided to do this by completing mammoth challenges and holding fun events all in the twelve months before their wedding.

Last August, the couple organised a summer fair as their first event before going on to even bigger escapades.

Ethan said: “We’re about half way through now and it’s been really good.

“We’ve raised about £1,000 and we are really pleased with that.

“There have been some hold ups along the way which we didn’t expect but we keep pushing on.”

Earlier this month, the staff and students at both Lutton St Nicholas Primary School and University Academy Long Sutton, where Sophie works, got involved in helping the cause.

Fittingly, everyone wore something red for the day.

Other fundraising efforts over the past few weeks have included bingo nights, quiz nights and even a World Cup sweepstake.

“This year we have a couple of bigger events planned,” Ethan said.

“I’m looking at doing the King’s Lynn 10K in April. I really want to have a go at going a 10K mud run as well.

“I also walked 100K in a month which was a big challenge.

“Sophie helped me on that one when she could which was great.”

The couple decided to embark on the year of challenges as the cause is close to their hearts.

Both Ethan and Sophie have seen loved ones impacted by heart attacks and have lost people who they wish could attend their upcoming nuptials.

But this is the ultimate driving force for them.

Ethan added: “We’re not planning on stopping.

“The plan is to hold the last event just a couple of weeks before our wedding in August so it’s going to be really busy.

“We want to keep doing this after the wedding. We will take a short break but then we want to go even bigger in 2024.”
