South Holland Covid infection rate is continuing to fall
South Holland’s Covid case rate is continuing to fall - with ‘suppressed’ levels in several parts of the district.
At time of press, the district had the 30th highest infection rate in the country, with 48.4 cases per 100,000.
That’s still higher than the national average - 26.1 - but is down from 76.1 at the same point last week and 124.2 a month ago.
Official data shows that five areas of the district had ‘suppressed rates’ in the week to April 15, which means there were fewer than three cases in seven days. Those areas are Long Sutton East and Sutton Bridge, Fleet Hargate and Holbeach St Johns, Moulton, Weston and Whaplode, Crowland and Cowbit and Spalding South West.
Holbeach had the most Covid cases in the district over that period - with 13.
County public health officials said about one in six people here had now had both vaccine doses. Lincolnshire County Council’s assistant director for public health Andy Fox said: “We’re really pleased with where we are with the vaccine in Lincolnshire.
“We know that the NHS teams doing the vaccination has been focusing on the second dose recently so we’ve seen that go up from a few percent a few weeks ago to now, where 15% of the adult population in Lincolnshire are fully vaccinated, which is really good to see.”
He said there was no evidence to suggest the new ‘Indian variant’ of Covid had reached Lincolnshire.
Mr Fox also urged residents to keep calm after reports of anti-social behaviour at the weekend, adding: “I’d expect some people to go a little bit too far and from everything that I’ve seen so far though these are isolated incidents rather than representative of the population in general.”
