Crowland crowds enjoy festive countdown and funfair despite cold weather
Cold weather did not deter the crowds from enjoying a town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
Families and friends piled into North Street in Crowland on Saturday to gather around the historic Trinity Bridge to watch the festive ceremony.
The event was organised by the Christmas Lights Committee and supported by Crowland Parish Council.
Philip Green of Classic Printers sponsored the tree and was delighted with the response to the switch-on ceremony.
He said: “It was really good with a huge attendance even though it was very cold.
“North Street was packed with people – it was really good and everybody enjoyed it.
“Charity stalls lined both sides of the street.”
Traders enjoyed the day with business such as the café , pub, bakery and butcher opening.
Santa’s grotto was opened up to the children who queued up to receive a gift despite the chill and they enjoyed the fairground.
Mr Green added: “The Christmas Lights Committee did an amazing job – credit wholly goes to them.
“It brought the community together and with a tremendous amount of new houses now occupied in Crowland it gives everyone a chance to take part.
“That’s the important thing – becoming part of the Crowland community.”
