Be a Superhero fun run for Sue Ryder, says Crowland charity volunteer
An ex-Spalding Grammar School head boy is inviting runners to turn into superheroes for a cancer charity he supports.
Mitchell Staff (18), of Crowland, is organising a Be Our Hero family run for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice at Ferry Meadows Country Park, Peterborough, on Sunday, September 30, at 10.30am.
Runners of all ages can dress up as their favourite comic book, TV or film characters and register for either 3km or 5km runs.
Mitchell, whose volunteering and fundraising for Sue Ryder saw him win the 2017 Crowland 13-18s Young Achiever Award, said: "Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough is there for people aged 18 and over who are living with conditions like cancer, heart failure and lung disease.
"Every day, it costs the hospice £9,000 to provide care to patients and their families.
"So I was inspired, along with a group of other hospice volunteers, to organise a family-friendly run for Thorpe Hall’s very own heroes – its doctors and nurses.
"The fun run is for all ages, as well as both wheelchair and dog friendly, and it will take participants from Ferry Meadows café, through the meadows, past the lake and back around to the café where they can meet our official Thorpe Hall Hospice heroes – the selfless nurses and doctors.
"Sue Ryder's expert care team also includes care assistants, occupational and complementary therapists, chaplains, bereavement support workers and befrienders, all for whom we hope to raise around £10,000 from this super fun event."
