Crowland Children’s Centre has something to smile about with cash for sensory equipment

Crowland Children’s Centre has just had a £565 boost from Spalding fundraisers for the Make Them Smile Children’s Trust.

Volunteer Crystal Eggleston presented the cheque, on behalf of the charity, and it will be spent on sensory equipment.

Some £500 was raised at a bingo night and the remainder through in-store collections at Morrison’s.

Lauraine Leroy, from the children’s centre, said: “We are very excited and feel very lucky to have been awarded these funds from the Make Them Smile Children’s charity.”

She said parents asked the centre to use the money to buy a large bubble tube and some low level mirrors.

Lauraine said: “These will benefit the children as they will provide a range of stimuli to help children to develop and engage their senses, all within a safe environment that allows the child using it to explore and interact without risk.”

The centre offers services including:

• Child and family health services, such as health visitor development checks and appointments with midwives

• Advice and information for families to support with issues around caring for their children

• Stay and play sessions to support child development

• Adult learning and volunteering opportunities for families

• Support for parents on a range of issues and parenting programmes

Lauraine said: “We usually have approximately 104 families each month who come to the centre to access the services and attend our sessions, it provides a really valuable place for families to go that is free and gives them time to meet other children and parents and build up relationships.”

Currently the centre’s parent forum is fundraising to help pay for a visit from ZooLab, which provides animal handling experiences for little ones.
