Crowland Dance School to mark opening of new studio with 'Cheer and Dance' day

Families in Crowland and surrounding villages can look round a dance school's new home in the town this weekend.

Crowland Dance Company is putting on a "Cheer and Dance" day to officially open its new studio at Unit 2, Pinnacle Close, on Sunday from 11am until 3.30pm.

The studio, located on Crease Drove Business Park, is a new base for about 80 youngsters, aged between three and 14, who have become part of the dance school since it was formed 18 months ago.

Founder and head coach Nikita Hudz said: "We started Crowland Dance Company because the number of activities for young people in the town was quite low.

"With the help of fellow coach Bethany Mason, we put on dance sessions to encourage young people to be physical active and give them something they can enjoy.

"It's also more local for their parents who don't have to travel out of Crowland in the evening."

Sunday's open day will include free taster sessions in tumbling, cheerleading, pom and hip hop dancing, with every child who comes to the studio being entered into a draw to win a free private dance lesson.

Nikita said: "Our first classes were held at Crowland Scout Hut and then we moved to the Methodist church in Reform Street.

"In May, we went to a competition in Peterborough where our young dancers won a number of trophies and places at a national competition in June.

"The youngsters we have mainly come from Crowland but we're currently looking to reach a wider area now that we have our own place, with a suitable floor surface for dance lessons."

Planning permission to convert one of the business units into a dance studio was given by South Holland District Council last month after the move was supported by Crowland Parish Council.

Nikita said: "This Sunday, we're looking to open the studio up to our existing members so they can have a look around.

"But we also want to encourage new members to see what we do by offering free taster classes for children to promote the dance company and the potential of our classes."
