Spalding School of Dance holds first class since lockdown

Spalding School of Dance has bounced back from temporary closure and held its first ballet class on Monday.

Class sizes have been reduced from the usual 26-30 students to 15, and there’s a raft of coronavirus safety measures - including social distancing while dancing.

Dance school owner Claire Patman is thrilled to be back, as are the students who are enjoying not only ballet but jazz, street and contemporary.

And there’s a special summer school starting next week.

The popular dance school temporarily closed its doors in Rangell Gate, Spalding, on March 21.

Asked about her feelings on the re-opening, Claire said: “I was a bit nervous, actually, but excited at the same time.

“I was just hoping it would go smoothly and the children enjoyed themselves, and weren’t too nervous themselves.”

The pre-opening nerves were out of place because the children loved it - and so did their parents.

Speaking on Tuesday, Claire said: “Last night we had parents messaging us on Facebook all evening congratulating us for what we had put in place.”

Safety measures include queuing systems outside and inside, an allocated hook for each student to put their things on, hand sanitisers and a cleaning regime between classes.
