Let’s Dance Day celebrated at Castle Sports Centre in Spalding
Dancers got in line at a town’s sports centre to join in with a national campaign to embrace dance as a way to improve health.
Let’s Dance Day, founded by Angela Rippon takes place on March 2 and is supported by the Sport and Recreation Alliance.
On Saturday, Casey-May Connolly, a dancer and personal trainer at Castle Sports Centre in Spalding took the reins of a free line dancing session in support of the campaign.
Miss Connolly said: “Everyone seemed to have a really good time and 56 people turned up.
“We had amazing feedback.
“People really enjoyed it.”
Lots of new faces came along to try out the fun event where they learnt a routine to traditional country music by Shania Twain.
Miss Connolly said: “We decided to put on a freebie in support of the dance day.
“We advertised it for a couple of months and I led the session.
“There were some people there that I recognised and many attending for the first time.”
Miss Connolly, 29, grew up in Spalding and trained to become a professional dancer at Tiffany Theatre College in Essex.
The mum-to-be went to school in the town and has returned to work at the centre after working commercially in London and on cruise ships.
However, the centre will close for a period of time as plans for a £26 million transformation to convert the ageing leisure centre into a modern health and wellbeing hub have been approved.
After securing £20 million in Levelling Up funding in October 2023 to enhance activity and exercise opportunities in the area, South Holland District Council sought permission to demolish the existing swimming pool.
Building works will involve the construction of a two-storey extension at the Albion Street site, featuring new pools, upgraded sports facilities, a 3G pitch, a running track, and outdoor play areas.
Miss Connolly said dancers had asked if this event would be run again.
