Industrial development for Spalding Lincs Gateway site set for approval by South Holland District Council
Major new plans for an industrial development on the outskirts of Spalding look set to get the green light this week.
Alcan Properties has lodged a proposal for three storage and distribution buildings of up to 70,000 square metres for the Lincs Gateway site to the south of the town.
Members of South Holland District Council’s planning committee will be asked to rule on the scheme on Wednesday night.
Officers recommended that they approve the plans – with a condition that the developer pays £4,500 to investigate a new lower speed limit around the site.
A report drawn up for members stated that the development is considered ‘appropriate’ and is ‘in principle considered acceptable’.
The council’s inward investment team is ‘fully supportive’ of the plan and argued it could be of ‘great benefit to a wide range of businesses within the South Holland economy and beyond’.
Although drawings have been submitted, the current proposal is for outline planning permission – with the detail to be determined at a later stage.
The site is on land north of the B1173 Barrier Bank and west of the A16.
Nearby members of the public have complained about the height of the development – but officers said a report on the impact to residents in Fen End Lane showed ‘no impact’ with regards to overshadowing and loss of lighting.
Ward councillor David Ashby also said the 60mph speed limit between Little London bridge and the A16 roundabout was a ‘accident waiting to happen’.
Concerns from Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust have been addressed with an ecological appraisal and field survey.
