Brother and sister trek 40 miles from Leicester to Spalding as part of charity walking challenge
A ‘defeated’ brother and sister were offered help in Spalding after ending their charity trek 40 miles in due to excruciating foot pain.
Warren Fowlers, 19 and sister Fraya Fowlers, 17, of Leicester, were spotted asking for help at a Spalding bus stop on Sunday (June 23), by mental health coach Vanessa Browning.
The pair were asking when the next bus would arrive and explained their situation to Vanessa. She said: “They told me that they had walked from Leicester as part of a charity walk for Cancer Research. They said they had camped out for three days and once they reached Spalding, their feet were in bits with loads of blisters.”
Originally, the plan was to walk more than 80 miles from Leicester to Skegness. However, after reaching the half way point, Warren and Fraya decided to end their journey in Spalding as the pain became too much.
Vanessa added: “They decided they were defeated and couldn’t go any further. I took them to the Hub In and Hub Out in Spalding and got them some water and food.
“They were a bit upset with themselves but I told them there is no loss in this because they have come so far and still managed to do some fundraising for it too.
“It was an inspiring story and they donated their bedding, shoes, sleeping bags and tent to the homeless. To meet them and listen to their stories was totally amazing. They have inspired me to do something similar in the future for charity.”
