South Holland District Council decision on bin collection changes is delayed
The decision on the future of the district’s bin collections has been delayed.
South Holland District Council is putting together several different cost options after a recent consultation resulted in a ‘minor victory’ for keeping bags over the introduction of wheelie bins.
The authority conducted the survey - which received a total of 8,576 responses with 49% in favour of wheelie bins while 51% wanted to retain the bags - ahead of the introduction of food caddies in 2026.
A report on the future of the waste collections was due to go before cabinet in December and then to full council at the end of January - but this has been delayed, meaning residents still don’t know the likely future mix of bags and bins despite the consultation result being made public at the start of October.
The authority’s key decision plan shows that the report ‘to approve changes to the waste service to meet the Simpler Recycling requirements of the Environment Act 2021’ is not due to be considered by cabinet members until February 18.
A council spokesman has stated that the authority is waiting some updates and further information from DEFRA before members can make a decision.
