Spalding department store Coneys on the market
An empty town centre department store is on the market.
Coneys shut up shop in Spalding in May of this year, citing ‘significant increases in costs and declining sales’.
The three-storey Broad Street building – which boasts floor space of 1,392sqm - is now up for sale at £750,000 but could also be available to let for £65,000 per annum.
“The property comprises the historic former Hills Department store in the centre of Spalding,” agent Pygott & Crone said.
“The property comprises a substantial prominent three-storey department store.”
Coneys, which was formerly Hills Department Store, was opened in 2020 and added a prosecco bar to its restaurant.
However, the business suffered as the cost of living crisis hit and customers felt the pinch.
“All possible avenues have been explored to save the business and keep the store open, but due to significant increases in costs and declining sales it was decided that there was no option but to close this store,” read a statement by director Scott Crowson, posted on the store’s door earlier this year.
“The management of the business would like to thank all the staff for their hard work and to all our customers for their continued support over the last two years.”
