Facelift for derelict Long Sutton butcher's shop moves a step closer

Plans to give a derelict former butcher's shop in Long Sutton a much-needed transformation has moved a step closer after support from parish councillors.

Developers Sean Portass and Dana Garkavaya have applied to turn what was once Barlings, then Bartons Butcher's, into a new ground floor shop and two first floor apartments.

South Holland District Council is yet to decide on the plans for the property which was originally built in the 18th century.

But during their June meeting last week at the former United Reformed Church, now the offices of Long Sutton Parish Council, members unanimously backed the plans.

A statement on behalf of the developers said: "The property was originally built in the 18th century and it is a prominent building through Long Sutton.

"But it is currently redundant and in need of major renovations to bring it back to its former glory."

Speaking to the Lincolnshire Free Press in April (read full story here) after buying the shop, Dana said: “It’s such a shame that the first thing people see when they come through the town is a building that’s been derelict for so long.

"It pains us to see it when we're trying to make Long Sutton a nicer place."

Coun Richard King, chairman of Long Sutton Parish Council, said: "Looking at the other fine work Sean and Dana have done in Long Sutton, I can only imagine what they will do to turn what is an eyesore in the town into something nice.

"I look forward to seeing the building developed and brought up to a good standard."
