The new trainees are Toby Coldron, Adrian Spurdle and Harry Jones. They were joined by GBSG engineer Nicole Sammons, who wished to further upgrade her skill set.

“The goal is to encourage new entrants into the industry, focusing on their transferable skills and to empower existing personnel to become proficient at their jobs and multi-skilled across the disciplines to equip them with the skills they need to progress within the company.

“The traineeships are for two years, and combine classroom and on-site practical sessions.

“In the first twelve months engineering trainees will aim to achieve all licenses for IPAF, MEWP and complete all Ihasco training, as well as going through full health & safety training.

“They will work alongside our skilled engineers and become competent in core industry skills, working unsupervised as time progresses.

“Initially we are offering traineeships in the engineering aspects of security, but this will be expanded to cover sales, administration, purchasing and management in the near future.”

There are a number of electrical engineering modules on offer if you are successful in applying for the traineeship.

The Electronic Principles module gives a practical understanding of electronics, and is considered vital for everyone involved in the repair, maintenance and commissioning of security systems.

The Foundation Intruder Course will give you the fundamental skills needed to install, commission and maintain ‘state of the art’ intruder alarm systems within the requirements of British and European standards.

Elsewhere, the Practical Intruder Alarm Installation class will teach you the best way to design, plan, install, repair and maintain intruder alarm systems.

It will give you an understanding of the governing legislation and the electronic principles behind the exciting subject.

The Intruder Alarm Repair and Maintenance module will cover the most common causes of false alarms, as well as teaching you to identify and rectify the problems.

Finally, the Electrical module is designed to provide hands-on experience with the wiring of all popular types of electrical circuits.

Neil Jackson, Managing Director at GBSG, talked about the strategic vision for the traineeships.

He said: “We aim to recruit new personnel based on our core values, which we call the GB Group Values.

“We believe it’s about attracting people with transferable skills and a keen interest in following a new career path. The GBSG Traineeships scheme fits into this strategic plan.

“We’re looking for people who have an aptitude for technology and innovation and have excellent communication and customer service skills.”
