Difference of opinions over proposed holiday park in Long Sutton
South Holland planning officers are on a collision course with parish councillors over a proposed caravan and holiday park in Long Sutton.
A plan by Jonathan Hoey, owner of Foreman's Bridge Caravan Park in Long Sutton, for a site to include up to 22 holiday cottages and 30 caravan pitches off the A17 near McDonald's restaurant, is due to be considered next week.
South Holland District Council planning committee members will meet on Wednesday to vote on plans to redevelop more than 17 acres of land off Vicarage Lane.
A statement on behalf of Mr Hoey said: "The site, at present, is an under-utilised parcel of grassland which has been used for occasional car boot sales.
"The proposal constitutes a rural enterprise which will bring significant economic benefits to the area and would provide a tourist/leisure facility which is well-related to the highway network.
"It makes efficient use of land by developing a site for holiday accommodation that is driven by the desire to create a positive and pleasant development."
A previous planning application for the holiday park was rejected by South Holland District Council in October 2017.
But a report for Wednesday's meeting said: "The number of caravan pitches has been reduced from 45 to 30 and some of the cottages have been relocated onto the outer perimeter of the site next to the A17."
However, when the plans were discussed during a meeting of Long Sutton Parish Council in May, chairman Coun Richard King said: "Access would be a problem due to its location near McDonald's Restaurant and cars parking on either side of the road, making it dangerous to walk there due to the traffic.
"As well as the road safety issues, the council also feels it is out of keeping with the general area."
