Digger starts work at Spalding’s Bull and Monkie grotspot

A digger has moved onto the site of a prominent grotspot as work starts to transform this area.

The Bull and Monkie has blighted Churchgate in Spalding for many years but action is now starting to tidy up this eyesore.

Last August Crispin Holdings has applied to demolish the derelict building and build an 88-bed care home in its place – but South Holland District Council has not made a decision on whether to grant planning permission.

A JCB can be seen on site this morning clearing the vegetation from the hard standing which has grown up since the former pub closed its doors many years ago.

Spalding Civic Society has formally objected to the plans and calls have been made for a full survey of the site to discover if it does hold medieval archaeological remains.
