South Holland Covid cases pass 5,000
More than 5,000 cases of Covid-19 have now been reported in South Holland - as the district continues to suffer from one of the highest case rates in the country.
The latest Public Health England figures show a further 16 people tested positive for Covid-19 in South Holland yesterday (Monday) - taking the total to 5,006.
That means there have been a total of 126 cases in the last seven days which, at 122.1 per 100,000 people, is the 15th highest rate in the country. The UK-wide figure is 57.6.
No new deaths were reported, meaning it remains the case that 183 people have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test in South Holland since the pandemic began.
However, Public Health England also tracks cases where Covid-19 is mentioned on someone's death certificate. On this measure, 192 people in South Holland have so far died after suffering from Covid-19.
The 5,000 case milestone comes as people across the district reflect on a year since the first Covid lockdown began, which some people chose to mark with a minute's silence at noon.
