South Holland's Covid rate has more than doubled in a week - but much of the district has 'suppressed' infection levels

South Holland’s Covid-19 infection rate has more than doubled in the last week.

The district's case rate is now 53.7 per 100,000 people - up from 23.2 seven days ago.

However, that figure is still well below the national average - which stands at 157.

Official figures show the case rate here is now highest among children aged between 10 and 14.

No new Covid-related deaths have been reported in the district during June.

All bar four parts of the district - Spalding North, Spalding South West, Pinchbeck & Deeping St Nicholas and Crowland & Cowbit - have a case rate that is low enough to be considered ‘suppressed’.

Anyone who has not yet had both doses of the Covid vaccine is able to head along to a walk-in session at the Princess Royal Sports Arena in Wyberton without the need to book an appointment in advance.

The jabs are available between 8am and 7pm today, tomorrow, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Last weekend 267 people went to the PRSA alone for walk-in vaccines.

In total, 64,099 people in South Holland have had their first jab (78.5% of the adult population) - and 51,546 (63.1%) have had both doses.
