'Please switch your engine off'




Victor Lewis (Letters, August 6 edition) complains, as I do, about pollution from motor vehicles standing at level crossings.

In Germany motorists have the common sense to switch off their engines - why not here? Is petrol too cheap?

Are Brits a bit mindless? Or is it just when they get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle that they lose their concern for the environment?
