'Please switch your engine off'
Published: 06:00, 31 August 2019
Victor Lewis (Letters, August 6 edition) complains, as I do, about pollution from motor vehicles standing at level crossings.
In Germany motorists have the common sense to switch off their engines - why not here? Is petrol too cheap?
Are Brits a bit mindless? Or is it just when they get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle that they lose their concern for the environment?
And if you have just missed the lights at roadworks, what is the earthly point of keeping the engine running?
