Dogs attacked flock of sheep in Sutton St James

Villagers have been left in a worried state after dogs attacked a flock of sheep.

Two dogs, believed to have been a German Shepherd and a terrier, attacked the farm animals on the morning of September 19.

The incident took place at Baulkins Drove, Sutton St James - but Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that no arrests were made.

Jennifer Garbutt (75), who sits on Sutton St James Parish Council, says villagers have taken to social media to voice their concerns over the attack.

Residents claim the sheep were killed - although police did not confirm whether or not they died.

Coun Garbutt described the event as ‘concerning’ - especially as the dogs have since been spotted near the field again.

“People walk their dogs, and suppose they are a bit like that in a frenzy - because once they do things like that, they usually do it again,” she said.

“Some have got a little dog and perhaps their daughter with them, and if a child screams it sets them off.

“I just worry, because you don’t know what could happen next.”

The Sutton St James attack came at a similar time to a Spalding teenager being summoned to stand trial, accused of being in charge of five dogs which attacked a woman last December.

And last week, Lasma Sepetovska, the 20-year-old owner of a dog which seriously injured a building surveyor while she carried out an energy assessment in Spalding, was handed a suspended prison sentence.

Coun Garbutt has called for tougher action to be taken on owners whose dogs are involved in such incidents.

“There’s more and more problems with loose dogs everywhere,” she said.

“They’re too easy with them when they catch them. It’s not the dogs’ fault, but if they are liable to behave like this all the time, then they have to be destroyed.”

On the Sutton St James sheep attack, she added: “We shouldn’t have to live like that. If it had been with a farmer, he’d have been well within his rights to shoot them.”

Police have recorded the attack under Incident 147 of September 19. It was reported at 12.41pm.
