Doorstep vigil started by Bourne woman for murdered Sarah Everard will show solidarity for all victims

A national doorstep vigil set up by a Bourne woman is encouraging people to unite for murder victim Sarah Everard and give a voice to all victims.

At 6pm tomorrow (Saturday, March 13), people are invited to stand on their doorstep with a lighted candle to show solidarity to make the streets a safer place for women.

It is in the wake of the tragic death of Sarah Everard (33) who went missing after walking alone on a London street.

Aimee Tinkler (34), a marketing manager originally from Spalding, said: "The doorstep vigil originally started with just Bourne and has become the national one."

It started after a group of #Reclaim These Streets members came up with the idea of holding a doorstep vigil to coincide with the planned Clapham Common gathering on Saturday.

"Sarah did everything to stay safe. She phoned her boyfriend, wore colourful clothes and walked in a well-lit area but she was not safe," Aimee said.

"I had been following the initial posts when Sarah went missing. She is a friend of a friend. I saw it got bigger and bigger and then on the Wednesday I heard the news that a police officer had been arrested.

"It sparked sadness and anger and we want to make women's voices heard.

"We want as many people as possible to show support. We are all pulling towards a common goal. The hope is to keep the conversation going."

Both women and men are invited to take part in the vigil.
