Spalding drink driver could lose job after causing three-vehicle crash at West Pinchbeck
A drink driver looks set to lose his job after causing a three-vehicle collision.
Kitchen fitter Marcin Skala was over the legal alcohol limit when he crashed his Ford Transit into the back of a Kia Picanto at Bourne Road, West Pinchbeck on November 8.
“The offence occurred at 5.30pm,” explained prosecutor Turan Sunat.
“(The driver of the Kia) heard a big bang and realised a van behind him had crashed into his Kia Picanto, which forced his car into the back of the vehicle in front.”
Mr Sunat added the collision had left the Kia driver with a minor back injury.
Skala (37) gave a reading of 52 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
In defence, Michele Elvin said Skala – who has no previous convictions – presumed he would lose his job as a result of the conviction, due to driving being a requirement of his employment.
Skala, of Toridge Road, Spalding, pleaded guilty to drink driving.
He listened through a Polish interpreter as he was addressed by District Judge Peter Veits.
“You were fortunate that only minor injuries were caused,” the judge said.
“That would have made this more serious than it already is.”
Skala was banned from driving for 16 months. He was offered the opportunity to take the drink driving rehabilitation course which would knock four months off his ban.
He was also fined £500 and told to pay a £200 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
