Bicker drink-driver narrowly misses baby’s cot as he crashes into Boston home

A drink-driver’s car missed a baby’s cot by just one metre when it careered into a house.

Bicker resident Alexsejs Susorovs, 35, was handed an 18-week suspended sentence on Wednesday after admitting failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He had hidden from police and, when found nearby lying in a bed of nettles, was unable to walk unsupported.

Boston Magistrates’ Court heard that it was his third conviction related to drink-driving.

The collision in Boston’s Woodville Road, which caused serious structural damage, happened at 11.40pm on June 2.

“The officer attending found the vehicle involved – a black Audi Q7 – in contact with the house with its lights on and its engine running,” said prosecutor Shelly Wilson.

“There was no one in the vehicle.

“The officer walked into the house and could see significant damage and bowing to the brickwork.

“The house was the home of a couple and their four young children, the baby’s cot being positioned within a metre of where the car had smashed into the house.”

A discarded mobile phone was found in the garden and Susorovs was quickly found nearby with facial injuries and vomit on his top.

“It was noted that his eyes were glazed, his speech was slurred and he appeared drunk,” added Miss Wilson.

“In fact he was so drunk that he couldn’t walk unaided to the police car.”

At Pilgrim Hospital, Susorovs initially agreed to give blood for analysis but then refused.

He had previous convictions for drink-driving in 2015 and 2016.

“Only immediate custody is going to be relevant in this case,” Miss Wilson told the bench.

In a pre-sentence report prepared by a Probation officer, Susorovs said he had not drunk for a year before the incident.

He then met friends and ‘ended up drinking excessively to the extent that he has no recollection of the offence at all.’

Solicitor Roger Lowther said: “The best piece of mitigation that I can advance on Mr Susorovs’ behalf is his guilty plea.”

He added: “It’s clear that he has poor decision-making processes and will take risks.

“If you were to send him to prison today this would not be addresses.”

The jail term was suspended for two years and Susorovs, of Lowgate Avenue, must do 15 days of rehabilitation activity requirements and wear an alcohol abstinence monitoring tag for 120 days.

He was banned from driving for five years, which can be cut by 60 weeks with completion of a drink-driver rehabilitation course.

A fine of £400 and costs and victim surcharge totalling £239 were also imposed.
