Drink-driver went wrong way around A16/A17 Sutterton Roundabout
A drink-driver caused a crash by going the wrong way around a major roundabout.
Florin Burdulea’s Vauxhall Vivaro collided with another vehicle at the junction of the A17 and A16 in Sutterton.
The 42-year-old, of Oak Drive, Outwell, was arrested and gave a reading of 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Marie Stace, prosecuting at Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, said: “In interview, he said he’d had four to five beers at his child’s birthday party.
“He went to pick up some friends to take back.
“He said he was distracted by a light, panicked and then drove the wrong way around the roundabout.”
Burdulea, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to drink-driving on March 11.
Helen Coney, mitigating, said: “He regrets his actions.
“It’s had an impact on him and his family in that he hasn’t been able to get to work except for two occasions when he got a lift.”
Burdulea was banned from driving for 20 months, which can be cut with completion of a drink-driver rehabilitation course. He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £48 victim surcharge.
