Driving ban and unpaid work for construction worker who ‘almost cut up’ police car when over drug-drive limit in Spalding
A construction worker who ‘almost cut up’ a police car was found to have cannabis in his system.
Officers were worried about 21-year-old Artus Sinavskis’ ‘ability to drive’ after stopping him on Spalding’s Pennygate at 12.55am on May 4.
He pleaded guilty to a drug-driving charge and was hit with a driving ban, unpaid work and ordered to cough up £200 when he appeared in court on Wednesday (November 13).
“Police officers observed a Volkswagen Polo turn right, almost cutting up the police car,” prosecutor Turan Sunat told Boston Magistrates.
“Officers were concerned about his ability to drive and concerned about his demeanour.”
Sinavskis, of Larkspur Way, Spalding, was found to have 2.9 micrograms of the class B drug per litre of blood. The legal limit is 2mcg.
Defending Sinavskis, Rebecca Freitas said her client - who operates as a sole trader in the construction industry - had taken steps to stop taking the drug.
“He no longer has an issue with cannabis,” she said.
“He has moved back home to live with his mother to help him stop taking cannabis.
“He’s worried about his future.”
Sinavskis was banned from driving for 17 months and ordered to undertake a 12-month community order, which includes 40 hours of unpaid work.
He must also pay a £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
