Spalding drug and alcohol worker Angela Bayleigh sets up business as Glass Hippie

A drug and alcohol youth worker has turned her hand to fused glass design - and will be attending a fair at Donington Christmas Market.

Angela Bayleigh (55) started making her designs, under the name The Glass Hippie, at the beginning of last year.

She recently presented her items at the Farmer’s Market at the Lakes and Lawns campsite in Fleet.

“I use a special fusible glass that I cut and it may have several processes in the kiln,” she explained.

“I make lanterns, sun catchers and boxes with LED lights that light up the glass.”

Angela has covered Spalding as a drug and alcohol worker supporting young people in Lincolnshire.

“That is my full- time job but for a number of years I have been going to the coast – Cornwall and Norfolk – and seeing a certain glass style,” she added.

“I thought it was so beautiful and wondered ‘how do they do that?’”

After researching it and going on a course she initially worked from an area within her garage and now has a workshop in her garden.

“When I am in my workshop listening to my music or a podcast I get completely lost in it,” said Angela, who lives in Osbournby.

“All the colours when I make a piece look lovely – but you never really know exactly how it will turn out.”

The Glass Hippie name stems from a brainstorming session with her family.

She said: “Well I am a bit of a hippy at heart and I’ve always been a bit airy fairy.”

She also makes bespoke items such as memories of people’s dogs who have died

Donington craft fair will be held on December 3.
