EDUCATION AWARDS 2018: Playing primary roles in a school’s life
Rachel Vidler, winner of the 2015 Inspirational Primary Teacher Award, spoke about the thrill teaching four to 11-year-olds after her unexpected success.
Speaking about her work at Linchfield Community Primary School, which Miss Vidler has since left, she said: “It’s all about hooking into whatever children love and I really enjoy capturing their imagination.”
The Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian is giving parents, guardians, governors and the wider community a chance to recognise the work of inspirational primary school teachers at our Education Awards on Thursday, July 5.
Outstanding teachers, who have instilled a love of learning into his or her pupils, as well as encouraging them to excel and develop the skills and enthusiasm needed to make a positive difference in the world, will be considered for the award.
It is sponsored for the first time by Freshtime UK, of Wyberton, which has supplied salads, snacks, prepared vegetables and sandwich fillers to leading retailers and caterers since 2000.

John Stokes (right), head of procurement for Freshtime, said: “After supporting a charity of the year for a few years, championing some inspirationally good causes, Freshtime set up its Freshtime Futures Trust in late 2016, achieving charitable status in March 2017.
“Freshtime Futures Trust provides financial support for 11-25 years old within the local area because we are committed to helping young people be empowered to build bright futures and reach their full potential, regardless of background or circumstances.
“Since March 2017, we have helped individuals and organisations by providing financial help, raising funds for the trust through our annual events which include a golf day and black tie gala evening.
“Our aim for the future is to help more young people realise their full potential by providing financial support to allow them to access specialist training, apprenticeship schemes or support additional academic or sporting pursuits.”

Even with a full complement of primary and secondary teachers, no school could function effectively without a team of support staff whose contribution to education can often go unnoticed.
The Support Staff Award gives schools and opportunity to recognise the work done by an individual or team in contrbuting to a successful school environment.
UK Produce Industry Fair 2018 (PIF), to be held at the East of England Showground, Peterborough, from September 12-13, is sponsoring the Support Staff Award for the first time.
Trevor Hyde, chairman of UK PIF 2018, said: “The PIF is an annual fair that targets the produce and arable farming industry, offering a great, all-round event that showcases technology, innovation, services and products within this economic sector.
“This year, we are looking to take a step further, as Brexit presents both employment challenges and pressures on packaging, wastage and other issues facing the industry.
“Therefore, it is even more important for the industry to have an event that promotes the supply chain options available to take it into the future.
“Being part of the Education Awards gives UK PIF 2018 the opportunity to highlight our largest local industry to our youth, with South Holland supplying 38 per cent of all produce consumed in the UK, because attracting our next generation into a very exciting and developing industry is paramount.”
