Work starts to remove Spalding's Two Plank Bridge

Contractors have started to remove a popular pedestrian bridge.

Lincolnshire County Council is taking down the wooden Two Plank Bridge in Spalding and replacing it with a steel structure as part of the Spalding Western Relief Road construction work.

However this will result in an 18-month closure of the bridge - which is a vital crossing between Pinchbeck and Spalding.

Residents have spoken out about the long closure of Two Plank as it is popular with dog walkers and for school children getting into town.

Construction work on the northern section of Spalding Western Relief Road re-started in January after being postponed last summer.

A memorial to hero pilot George Furniss is also due to be moved as a result of the work.
