Nominations open for Spalding Guardian and Lincolnshire Free Press Education Awards
Nominations are now open for the seventh Spalding Guardian and Lincolnshire Free Press Education Awards.
Pupils, staff and governors from pre-schools, primaries and secondary schools across south Lincolnshire are being recognised after returning to a full year of education following the interruptions of Covid-19.
For the second year running, our awards will take place at their new home of the Springfields Events and Conference Centre – and for a magnificent seventh year running accountants Duncan and Toplis will be the headline sponsor.
Free Press editor Jeremy Ransome said: “This is without doubt my favourite evening of the year.
“We have some great schools, pre-schools and academies here and I am delighted to host these awards in order to celebrate their many achievements.
“Please nominate and help make sure the students, teachers and support staff who have made a difference get the recognition they deserve.”
At our last awards, held in September 2021, Spalding High School was a four-times winner and was crowned Secondary School of the Year, while Spalding’s Wygate Park Academy claimed two, including the Primary School of the Year accolade.
The High School was also celebrating after the Inspirational Secondary School Teacher award was announced, with Head of Mathematics Sarah Chalcraft winning. Thurlby Academy Early Years Foundation Stage teacher Suzie Philips was crowned Inspirational Primary School Teacher.
Selfless sixth-form student Libby Mayne, of Spalding Academy, won the Secondary School Student of the Year award, with Gosberton Clough and Risegate youngster Coby Smith and Crowland South View pupil Lily Brooks jointly winning Primary School Student of the Year.
Pre-School of the Year went to BeBright of Spalding, with the Environmental Award giving Wygate Park Academy its second success of the evening.
There was a third success for Spalding High School when Year 11 students Emily Sansom, Abi Barks, Paige Burton and Charlotte Pool scooped the Contribution to the Community accolade and a fourth when Outstanding Sporting Achievement went to High School golfer Tilly Garfoot.
Support Staff Member of the Year was won by Amanda Cooke, of Westmere Primary School in Sutton Bridge.
Readers have until 5pm on Thursday, May 26 to nominate in each of 11 categories. Judges will then look through all nominations before deciding a shortlist in each category.
