Exciting month at Spalding Parish C of E Day School

It has been an exciting start to the school year for Spalding Parish C of E Day School, which has launched a new curriculum.

The question: ‘How can we make a difference?’ focuses the children on thinking about making a difference to the world we live in.

Within each class across school, lots of amazing ideas have been generated by budding scientists, historians, artists, mathematicians and even eco warriors.

Pupils have not only started making a difference to the school community but also to their wider community.

Isabella has fund raised to support Macmillan Cancer with her ‘Guess how many sweets in a jar’ contest to raise money at Marks and Spencer in Springfields. So far, she has raised £150.

William was named man of the match when his football team won their first game of the season.

Lily created a new bird as part of the Lincolnshire libraries summer reading challenge and won a prize for her rainbow-coloured Owlicorn.

After being recommended a book by her teacher about ‘Maps, measurements and meanings’, Freddi then went Geocaching in the local area.

George helped the community by litter picking.

The school is also grateful to Peter Bird, who created a remembrance mural as a powerful reminder for the whole school community. This created a buzz around school as artwork evolved over the course of the day.

Later this term, Year 6 pupils are taking part in a special ‘Remembrance Service’ with Rev John Bennett at the Parish Church of St Mary and St Nicholas and taking part in a First World War poetry workshop with poet Brian Moses.
