Extra lights added to spruce up Spalding's Christmas tree

Spalding’s Christmas Tree is shining brighter after more lights have been added.

The town centre tree had been met with derision after last month’s switch on, residents taking to social media to brand the illuminations ‘awful’.

But South Holland District Council have acted to spruce up the tree.

“We spoke with senior council officers and pressed the point,” explained Coun Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for communities and facilities.

“It’s an impressive tree, it’s a very good tree but the lights needed to be better.

“We spoke to the contractor and some more lights were installed.

“It’s important to listen to feedback where we can.”

Coun Taylor said he had seen some positive comments online after further lights were added.

“It’s important and shows we listen to concerns,” he added.

“It’s something to learn for next year, we want the reaction to be 100% positive."
