The witness, who asked not to be named, said: “We were walking past HSBC and there was a big bloke, who must have been 6ft 2in or 6ft 3in, who started to have an argument with a woman.

“We didn’t think it was anything to worry about until he started to raise his voice. We turned around and he pushed her into the alley next to the bank (Hole in the Wall).

“We ran over and all we heard was him dragging her down the alleyway and her screaming.

“We got to the bottom and they had disappeared.”

The eyewitness said a number of police cars arrived.

This area of Spalding town centre has been subject to anti-social behaviour recently. A distraught shopper reported seeing an man inject into his penis at the back of HSBC at 11am on Monday last week.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and say the man was wearing a cream track suit and was of large build.

A force spokesman said: “We received a call at 10.09pm reporting a man assaulting a woman near the HSBC in Market Place, Spalding.

“It is believed that the incident then continued away from the Market Place.

“Officers were deployed and conducted a search of the area, but neither party was located.

“It is believed that the man seen was of large build, wearing a cream tracksuit.”

Anyone who has information or who may have seen the incident should call 101 quoting incident 475 of 9 October.
