Spalding factory workers vote on revised pay offer

Workers at a Spalding factory are being balloted over a revised pay deal.

Staff at the Bakkavor site in Spalding had two weeks ago voted to go on strike over three days in December following a pay dispute.

But things may change after meetings last week.

A Unite the Union spokesperson said: “Following meetings with Bakkavor at the end of last week, the company made an improved pay offer which the union is recommending for acceptance . A ballot on the offer will now be held over the coming weeks.”

Previously, workers had asked for a three per cent increase on their hourly rate while Bakkavor said it has offered three per cent in year total package increase – representing a 1.5 per cent pay increase and 1.5 per cent lump sum.

Earlier this month, 494 workers voted to go on strike.
