Picnic in the Park planned for Pinchbeck

Families will be able to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon in place of a popular carnival.

Pinchbeck Carnival Committee has organised a host of activities on The Glebe Field for the Picnic in the Park event, which is due to take place at the end of June.

The committee had taken the difficult decision earlier this year not to hold its popular carnival event for a second year due to the pandemic.

But they are hoping that that villagers and their families will enjoy the music and games which have been organised for Sunday, June 27.

Carnival secretary Jane Amess said: “The closer it gets, the more excited we are.

“It is nice to put something on and we hope that people will come along and enjoy themselves. They will be able to make new friends while meeting up with old ones as well.

“People will be able to bring their own gazebos, tables and charities but no barbecues.”

The committee have a busy programme of entertainment planned for the event, which starts at noon and runs until 6.30pm.

Singer Fraz will be entertaining picnic-goers over three spots with his performance of popular hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Owners of vintage vehicles and tractors will be bringing along their machines to The Glebe Field, where they will go on display.

A number of children’s races will be held over the afternoon to keep youngsters occupied.

Dave Musto and Jan Whitbourn will be acting as comperes during the afternoon and challenging the audience to a game of musical bingo.

They will also be playing music during the afternoon.

A children’s cup and saucer ride will also be part of the afternoon’s fun and a host of stalls will also be set-up.

Along with cakes and tombola stalls, visitors will also be able to browse around jewellery stands, gifts and Avon will also be taking part.

Visitors are also urged to bring their own seating and they are also invited to come in fancy dress.

Jane also thanked Pinchbeck United for allowing the committee to use the field, which is off Knight Street.

She said: “There will be a
licenced bar as the football club have generously allowed us to use their field and the bar.”

Jane said the decision to cancel the popular carnival was taken earlier this year.

She said: “There was so much uncertainty at the beginning of the year that we couldn’t commit to it.

“But as it happens that was the right decision as we will still be under restrictions at the date when the carnival should be held.”
