Lincs Ark Animal Welfare raises vital funds at family fun day in Kirton

An animal charity raised more than £700 at its first fundraising event.

Visitors were able to learn more about Lincs Ark Animal Welfare and the work they do, whilst getting up close to some of their rescue rabbits at the fun day.

The organisation, which rescues and re-homes cats, kittens and rabbits, in Spalding, Boston and Holbeach, were able to welcome two new foster carers and a number of volunteers as a result of the event.

Lisa Skinner, who is the rabbit coordinator at Lincs Ark Animal Welfare, has dedicated her time to the service for nine years. She said: “The family day went really well. Our rabbit station was very successful and we received a lot of interest.

“It was our first event in many years and was solely organised by us. We wanted to raise awareness of what we do and raise money so we can continue doing what we do.”

Families were able to enjoy a range of activities such as face decorating, soft toy tombola, craft stalls, a bunny play and education area and a range of competitions – including the best homemade fancy dress, raffle tree, cream teas, hook a duck, temporary tattoos and lucky dip.

The event, which took place at Kirton Town Hall, raised £738 for the charity.

Michael Cannell, who has also been volunteering for nine years said: “We are always looking for new volunteers.

“Getting new foster carers in some cases, is better than the money.

“It can get really tiring and it is constantly busy – it does make it hard work.”

Lincs Ark Animal Welfare regularly manages a stall at summer fairs and other events across the area.
